Condemned inmate Timothy Joseph McGhee, 39, attacked two correctional officers at San Quentin State Prison with an inmate-made weapon early today as they attempted to return him from the shower to his cell.

NEWS:

Death Row

By Phillip Reese, Sacramento Bee-- Fifteen years ago, California had about as many death row inmates as Texas. Today, California's death row is more than twice as large, with 729 inmates.

OPINION:

Los Angeles Times-- Gov. Jerry Brown has before him SB 9, an important but in the end quite modest bill that would modify life-without-parole sentences for most inmates who committed their crimes as juveniles.

Realignment

By Carlos Villatoro, Dixon Patch-- The law enforcement landscape in Solano County is different than it was a year ago before the state passed AB 109, better known in criminal justice circles as Realignment.
The law, which transfers the responsibility of monitoring, rehabilitating and incarcerating certain non-violent, non-serious offenders from the state to the counties, has affected every facet of law enforcement throughout the state.
