SACRAMENTO-- At the 2012 Governor's Volunteering and Service Awards, Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. last night announced Scott Budnick as the "Volunteer of the Year" for his "marked devotion" to helping California inmates get a higher education.

Realignment

By Joel Metzger, Calaveras Enterprise--  “We’re doing darn good,” said Teri Hall, Calaveras County chief probation officer. She feels confident with this statement, because it’s backed up with a study performed by the Chief Probation Officers of California that examined the statewide impacts of Assembly Bill 109.

KNVN-- The days of handing out "Get out of jail for free cards" are about to end in Shasta County. County Supervisors voted Tuesday to send certain inmates to jails in El Dorado and Lassen counties. It's all in an effort to free up space in the Shasta County facility for so-called frequent-flyers. Which means repeat offenders are held in jail and forced to face justice.

The Associated Press-- California and state prison employees have reached a settlement in a lawsuit alleging inmates at Pelican Bay State Prison in Crescent City got access to employees' personal information, including Social Security numbers.

Imperial Valley Press-- A local emergency was declared for Imperial County today after a major storm hit Imperial County on Monday.
