Sacramento –The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) will host public workshops in Los Angeles on July 19 and Oakland on July 24 to gather input for improving rehabilitation programs for inmates and parolees.

Tehachapi News-- The suspect in the death of a 39-year-old inmate at the California Correctional Institution has been identified as Anthony Taylor, 28, who is serving a life sentence for a first-degree murder conviction from Kern County.

The Associated Press-- An inmate serving a 16-year prison sentence for robbery is looking at more time behind bars after authorities said he used a cellphone to set up a plan to rob a man of a Rolex watch advertised on Craigslist.

The Associated Press-- The California Supreme Court on Monday tossed out the death sentence of a man convicted of murdering rock guitarist Dave Navarro's mother and her friend nearly 30 years ago — a ruling that could affect the cases of Scott Peterson and other death row inmates.

Realignment

By Rina Palta, KPCC-- A new state agency will monitor prison realignment, the most dramatic change in criminal justice in recent California history. As of this month, the Board of State and Community Corrections will monitor what's happening in California's 58 counties as thousands of state prisoners return and are placed on community supervision instead of state parole.
